My Opinion

I have been using this product for three months now and I find it a big improvement over my previous primer, the DMGM Skin Primer (read review here).

The first thing I love about this primer is that it is very comfortable to wear. I never feel that I am wearing an extra layer of product underneath my foundation. And that scores major points with anyone who is familiar with Karachi’s humid weather! The product is very lightweight and leaves my skin soft and smooth.

This fragrance-free primer also makes it easy to blend my foundation and does a great job of keeping my skin well moisturized and hydrated. I would recommend though that unless your skin is very dry, skip applying a moisturizer beforehand. When it comes to application, I would suggest that don’t use more than a pea-sized amount because a) a little of this product goes a long way and b) a little too much of it and you end up with a very shiny face after a few hours. Do remember to wait for at least 10 minutes after applying the primer to give it ample time to settle into your skin.

Interestingly, this product does not come in a transparent gel-like formula but rather a white creamy texture. In the start, I was a little skeptical that the creamy formulation would add an unwanted shine to my face and make my skin oilier than it usually is, but surprisingly the primer completely absorbs into the skin upon application and dries with a very subtle dewy finish. This quality of the primer really helps brighten up my makeup and lends a fresh glow to my face. In fact, sometimes when I am not in the mood to apply makeup or prefer going for the all-natural look, I simply wear the primer alone without any foundation. My face looks reasonably clear and radiant for a good couple of hours.

As for wear time, this primer keeps my face oil-free for an average of 4.5 to 5 hours in summers and an average of 5 to 6 hours in winters. This is probably the most important reason why I would repurchase this product because the DMGM primer gave me an average wear time of only 2 to 3 hours.

I am also a big fan of the product’s elegant silver packaging not only because it looks glamorous on your dressing table but also because it comes in a very user friendly bottle. The mouth of the bottle comes with a dispenser pump which makes it very hygienic and easy to use. This also minimizes wastage, leakages and ensures that only the optimum amount of product is used.

As for its anti-ageing properties, I haven’t really noticed a difference in my skin in terms of lines and wrinkles.

Go for it if you:

1. Want a dewy and radiant finish to your makeup
2. Want to keep your skin shine-free for 4 to 5 hours
3. Have dry or combination skin
4. Prefer primers with anti-wrinkle qualities
5. Want a primer that hydrates your skin
6. Prefer products with dispenser pumps

Don’t go for it if you:

1. Have very oily skin
2. Are looking for a primer with a matte finish
3. Are interested in a budget friendly facial primer

Hit or miss? A hit!

Priced at PKR 1,790 ($ 18.4), the Artdeco Make-up Base with Anti-Aging Effect 15ml is pricier than the average facial primer but the price is worth it given its long wear time, dewy finish and gorgeous packaging.
